When trying to "up" your fitness, then it's often important to set yourself goals and targets. If you're looking for a new sport to get involved with, why not try cycling? Once you have a bike (and you can get some 2nd hand ones at very reasonable prices!) and helmet, then it's free and there's no limit to how much you use your bike!
If you're looking to up your fitness then cycling is definitely a great sport to get involved with. Sustrans, a UK Cycling charity, reports that investment in cycling provision can give a 20:1 return from health and other benefits. It has been estimated that, on average, approximately 20 life-years are gained from the health benefits of road bicycling for every life-year lost through injury.
With all this talk of cycling, why not enter yourself into DSUK's Peak 2 Peak Cycling event?!
Whether you're not that confident on a bike, or if you're entering the Tour de France tomorrow...this is an amazing way to test your determination and fitness. Our Peak 2 Peak cycle challenge is back for it's second year in a row, and this year the route has been reversed to make it accessible for cyclists of all abilities.
On Saturday 17th September, we're hosting a 65 mile bike ride from Cairngorm Mountain to Ben Nevis. There are 2 options for entering:
1. Entrance fee of only £60 and no sponsorship is required, although there are only a limited number of spaces available for this option so you must let us know asap.
2. Entry fee of £30 and we ask that you raise a minimum of £150 for Disability Snowsport UK.
This is a really great event for everyone. Whether you live locally to the area or fancy a long weekend in the Highlands...there's a BBQ afterwards and you'll still have the Sunday to explore to area without all the summer crowds.
If you're interested then please contact our fundraising team via fundraising@disabilitysnowsport.org.uk or call 0161 749 2290 once you're booked on then you'll have a goal to work towards and come the 18th September you'll have the amazing sense of smug achievement having just done an amazing challenge...
